can someone help me create an Acrostic Poem based on the words MY HOUSE

Magical, old and pretty,

Your eyes shine when you see it

How did I get so lucky?

Explanation: An acrostic poem is a poem where the writer uses a letter from each line, to spell a word or a phrase. In this kind of poetry, the composer can either decide to capitalize the first letter of each line, a letter in between, or the last letter. In this case, the secret words; "my house" are highlighted in the first word of each line. The poem as well, describes the writer's small and precious house.

which narrator is most clearly omniscient

Answers

Answer:

B. The speaker felt his knees shaking. However, no one in the  audience even knew he was nervous.

Explanation:

An omniscient narrator knows everything that happens before the story, during the story, after the story. The key pointer is the narrator knows every character's thoughts and feelings.

A. Vicente learned that opening a candy shop would be no easy task,

but that wouldn't stop him.

The narrator is only discussing Vicente's thoughts, so this could be first-person narration.

B. The speaker felt his knees shaking. However, no one in the

audience even knew he was nervous.

The narrator talks about the thoughts of both "the speaker" and the audience, so the narrator is omniscient.

C. "Stop, thief!" the guard shouted, but the thief was too quick and

made it over the castle walls.

This could be any third-person objective or limited narration. It's like similar to watching a movie; you aren't told what the characters are thinking.

D. Ting looked across the table and noticed the frown on her date's

face. Something must be wrong.

This could be first-person narration since we only know the thoughts for one character, Ting.

Answer:

The speaker felt his knees shaking. However, no one in the audience even knew he was nervous.

What central idea is implied in this paragraph?

Read this paragraph from The Dark Game.

It may seem surprising that no Confederate
sympathizers took action against Van Lew, given her
strong and public views on secession and slavery.
Surely there were suspicions, especially among her
upper-crust neighbors, but the matter never went
beyond those suspicions. Historians have suggested
that the secessionists were victims of their own
cultural bias, believing that no aristocratic person, and
certainly not a lady, would ever consider taking part in
anything as impolite as spying. A true lady managed
her servants, prepared parties and gatherings, and
blindly supported her husband. Such attitudes worked
in Van Lew's favor, diverting suspicion from her.

Elizabeth Van Lew did not follow the rules society
set forth for ladies of her time and social class.
Elizabeth Van Lew was a successful spy because
society did not expect a lady to serve in that role.
Elizabeth Van Lew was able to disguise her spying
activities because she kept her views about the war
to herself.
Elizabeth Van Lew created for herself an untrue but
believable cover story: she was a wealthy lady living
in a fancy neighborhood.

Answers

Answer: Elizabeth Van Lew was a successful spy because society did not expect a lady to serve in that role.

Explanation:

The central idea that is implied in this paragraph is that Elizabeth Van Lew was a successful spy because society did not expect a lady to serve in that role.

It was believed that a lady should manage her servants, prepare parties and support her husband but not a spy and this worked in Van Lew's favor.

________ is a brief introduction of yhe book by the author

Answers

The worst author introduction I ever saw is making me cringe, right now, as I remember it. The co-owner of the bookstore started by reading through the store’s upcoming events flier, pausing to on each event. This took a full 10 minutes. Then she spent 5 minutes talking about the plight of independent bookstores, and how they need money to do things like community book nights, and hey she’s got this newsletter sign-up sheet that she’s going to pass around. And while we’re at it, the store actually has two different email newsletters that they send out, and she described them both in great detail. Another sign-up sheet is passed around.

Having already wasted close to 20 minutes of our time, she launched into a synopsis of the book, interspersed with her own impressions, leaving no secondary character or minor scene unnamed. Worst of all, the book has a rather large twist in the second half, and she was explicitly hinting at what it is. Someone in the audience actually yelled out, “Don’t give it away!” This was advice she did not take.

This is an extreme example, by far the worst I’ve ever seen, but author introduction crimes are rampant. I was recently at a literary festival where at least 10 of the roughly 15 author introductions I saw were painful to sit through. I take this issue seriously because I was an author events coordinator at Brookline Books Mith for two years, and we took pride in our author introductions. The willingness and ability to carefully craft a good author introduction, in fact, was part of my job interview.

Author introductions, in my opinion, are about courtesy. Should a beloved, Pulitzer Prize-winning author have to hear the president of Northwestern’s Jewish students’ society call him Michael Sha-BONE eight times in two minutes? No. Because he flew across the country to speak for 50 minutes in your overheated auditorium and you have the internet. A good author introduction shows the author that you’re excited to be a partner in promoting their work and that you value the role their career plays on the literary stage, all while being informative and – lord have mercy – brief.

How To Introduce an Author

Step 1. Find Out Who the Author Is

Get your details straight. Look up the pronunciation of their name, even if you think you know it. If a definitive answer is elusive, ask their publicist, agent, or whoever set up the event with you. Otherwise, ask the author when they arrive, before you hit the microphone with some garbled version of .

cover

out what books they’ve written. Don’t say that Stay Awake is Dan Chaon’s fifth novel. He’s written two novels, but this is his third story collection. Do you think A History of Love is Nicole Krauss’s first book? Wrong! Look it up. If you find yourself introducing someone like Michael , who’s written novels, short stories, essays, comic books, and children’s books, just avoid taxonomy and say he’s prolific.

Find out what awards they’ve won, where they teach (currently), and what periodicals they write for. More on this later.

you haven’t had time to do your research, don’t guess, and definitely don’t — as I saw someone do last weekend — turn to Kevin Brock Meier in the middle of your introduction and say “Is The View From the Seventh Layer a novel?” I shudder.

Step 2. Weed Out Unnecessary/Unimpressive Details

So you’ve printed out the author’s Wikipedia entry. Don’t include the fact that they teach creative writing part-time at Eastern Nevada State. Don’t mention that they won the Central North Carolina Writer’s Prize. Don’t say that they were included on Entertainment Weekly’s 100 Authors to Watch list.

These details do two things — they make the author look small-time, and they give the impression that you’re desperate for any scrap of information to fill out your introduction.

Which Brings Us to Step 3. Include Personal Impressions

Personal impressions of the author’s work should be the bulk of your introduction. Ideally, they will be your personal impressions. During my first year as an events coordinator, I read each author’s book before I hosted their event, a unnecessary gesture with enormous dividends.

Firstly, it is yet another step you can take to avoid looking like an idiot. The room is full of people who’ve most likely come to hear the author because they’ve read their work. It’s embarrassing when the person at the microphone is the

Read the two excerpts from act 3, scene 2, of Julius Caesar.

[BRUTUS.] If then that friend demand
why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer:
not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved
Rome more. Had you rather Caesar were living, and
die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to live
all free men? As Caesar loved me, I weep for him.
As he was fortunate, I rejoice at it. As he was
valiant, I honour him. But as he was ambitious, I
slew him. There is tears for his love, joy for his
fortune, honour for his valour, and death for his
ambition. Who is here so base that would be a
bondman?

[ANTONY.] Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept.
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff.
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious,
And Brutus is an honourable man.
You all did see that on the Lupercal
I thrice presented him a kingly crown,
Which he did thrice refuse. Was this ambition?
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious,
And sure he is an honourable man.

Which statement best compares the two monologues?

Both Brutus and Antony ask rhetorical questions to make points.
Brutus describes Caesar’s generosity and compassion, while Antony describes his heartless nature.
Both Brutus and Antony describe Caesar’s weakness in battle.
Neither Brutus or Antony addresses the crowd directly.

Answers

Answer:

A)  Both Brutus and Antony ask rhetorical questions to make points.

Explanation:

Brutus and Antony both ask rhetorical questions. Isn't it? "Would you rather Caesar live and all slaves die than Caesar die and all free men live? ...Who is a bondman here?" Asks Antony "Did Caesar appear ambitious? Was it a goal?"

The other choices are incorrect. Brutus' ambition is not positive. He says he killed Caesar for his ambition. He probably wouldn't have killed him if he valued ambition. They didn't mention Caesar's flaws. Using the pronoun "you" directly addresses the crowd.

Answer:

A)  Both Brutus and Antony ask rhetorical questions to make points.

Explanation:

Fellow-citizens, above your national, tumultuous joy, I hear the mournful wail of millions! whose chains, heavy and grievous yesterday, are, to-day, rendered more intolerable by the jubilee shouts that reach them. If I do forget, if I do not faithfully remember those bleeding children of sorrow this day, "may my right hand forget her cunning, and may my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth!" To forget them, to pass lightly over their wrongs, and to chime in with the popular theme, would be treason most scandalous and shocking, and would make me a reproach before God and the world. My subject, then, fellow-citizens, is American slavery. I shall see this day and its popular characteristics from the slave’s point of view. Which best describes why this is an example of inductive reasoning? It starts with details and uses them to support a more sweeping statement. It makes an assertion, then counters arguments against that assertion. It defends an argument with carefully researched facts and excerpts. It uses an anecdote to support a broad claim about the injustices of slavery.

The Principal permitted......... The programme began. (put the correct conjuction in the blank to complete the sentence)

Answers

Answer:

before.

Explanation:

In English language, a conjunction can be defined as an English word that is typically used for connecting two or more clauses, words, phrases or sentences. Some examples of conjunction are but, and, although, because, or, yet, after, before, if, how, once, since, until, unless, when, so that, etc.

A subordinate conjunction can be defined as an English word that joins or connects an independent clause and a dependent (subordinate) clause. Thus, this type of conjunctions are used at the beginning of a dependent (subordinate) clause.

An independent clause can be defined as a clause that expresses a complete thought while standing alone as a simple sentence and comprises of at least a subject and a verb (predicate).

A dependent clause can be defined as a type of clause that is inserted into another clause to make meaning or express a complete thought.

In this scenario, the dependent (subordinate) clause is "the programme began" and as such would require a subordinate conjunction at the beginning; to join it with the independent clause "The Principal permitted us."

Hence, the complete sentence would be written as follows;

"The Principal permitted us before the programme began."
